100% wild food diet experiment - 3 months of eating nothing but wild food as part of a small study

The wild biome project was organised by Monica Wilde who herself ate only wild food for a whole year during lockdown. She wrote a book about this which has become a best seller and you can find it on the amazon store ‘The Wilderness Cure’. Inspired by her experience, she has been the driving force behind the wild food project that I will be taking part in, starting on the 21st March 2023, alongside 25 other foragers. The goal is to study how our gut microbiome changes over a period of one or three months and I hope to pursue this experience for the whole three months. During this time I will be eating only wild food, nothing from the supermarket, and nothing from farm shops. This means that I will be giving up raw milk, which has been my staple food for approximately eight years.

In addition to the gut, blood sugar, and fat tests that are supplied by ZOE, we hope to raise the funding to do blood nutrition and hormone tests during the study. If you would like to support this rare opportunity to observe how wild food affects our modern human bodies, please donate using the GoFundME link here, or using the button below this text.

Please see the video below for the first episode in what I hope to be in regular instalments over the course of this wild food journey. Please don’t forget to like and subscribe to my channel and you can also find my Instagram @foragefrolics where I will also post parts of this unique experience.

Reva G-wiz - SOLAR POWERED electric car project

UPDATE (Summer 2019): I have successfully travelled approx. 2000 miles down to Cornwall with the G-wiz and my sleeping pod trailer and the journey was trouble free. The project has been a huge success and I now have a low-cost electric car without spending a fortune on attaining the range I wanted and needed for my lifestyle. See my other youtube videos on my channel via the link below for updates on the journey down to the south coast and things that happened along the way. In retrospect and having done a mercedes tesla cell conversion on a G-wiz in Cornwall, I think those batteries are much better suited for anyone who would like to embark on a similar project. The whole purpose of this project aside from my own needs and desire to step away from petrol/diesel vehicles this year was to tackle the EV market from a different angle - one where budget was an issue and where any DIY enthusiast could achieve a mode of transport without needing the skill to fabricate certain parts needed to convert combustion engines at home without breaking the bank. I was featured at fully charged live and I also conducted workshops at the byline festival which were both unexpected and amazing experiences.

UPDATE (March 2023): The adventures with the G-Wiz came to an end some time during lockdowns in 2021. The batteries did not survive the winter that followed and I’ve had them refurbished and restored. They will last for a few years to come but as I required a reliable mode of transport, and with a fantastic opportunity to finally own a Nissan ENV-200 I jumped at the chance and that has now become my every day driver. It is kitted out as a self-build camper and has been an amazing upgrade from the little G-Wiz. I still have the G-Wiz but I use it for doing odd jobs around the field and it is no longer MOT’d for use on the road.

REVA G-WIZ AT FULLY CHARGED LIVE 2019: What an amazing event. I am exhausted after three days of talking, walking and sharing the inspiration and passion for electric vehicles. Videos were taken on the Sunday when things were a little quieter, but it has been busy and packed with enthusiastic folk who either own, looking to own, or simply curious about the world of all things electric, renewable and sustainable.

SOLAR-POWERED TRICYCLE

A video showing the progress of my solar powered tricycle project. The aim is to be able to ride carrying a load for both short commuting and long range travel. The idea is to have a simple, economical, sustainable and reliable source of 'green' transport that can be used for various tasks and not limited to the lightweight use commonly associated with a bicycle.

This journey was completed in the summer of 2018. I departed from home mid June 2018 and covered 500 miles down to the South coast into Hampshire and into Dorset until the journey home August 2018. Everything worked as planned with the exception to the chain and brakes not being suited to the weight that I was towing but with constant maintenance it was safe to ride. I proved that the concept works and I am up-scaling my self-sufficient project to the G-wiz above this post. Eventually I hope to power the G-wiz whilst travelling from its own large solar array that will fold up and be stored on top of a sleeping pod trailer that I will tow behind me.

The Goat Life : Raw goat milk & more

Four years ago Richard introduced some goats to the nature reserve for a supply of raw milk from the organic land around him. From a small-holding type approach it soon transitioned towards a truly free-range outlook where the goats were left to thrive on 30 acres of diverse habitat.

It was fascinating to watch as they developed their own browsing routes and thrived on the land throughout the year without any maintenance or supplements. As each new generation was born they became further suited to a ‘feral’ lifestyle and they were likely some of the healthiest and happiest goats in ‘captivity’.

Their hooves did not need trimming due to climbing trees and wearing them down naturally and their health kept improving through each new generation. Unfortunately Richard had to let the herd go in the spring of 2019 due to a change in life circumstances and the herd had become so feral they acted more like deer and had began to escape into the farmer’s fields despite no broken fences!

The link takes you to the old facebook group created for this journey though it has grown in size and now offers a few members who can supply raw goats milk through the post. He may return to this ‘rewilding’ project in the future, but till then - watch this space.

Poetry and Writing

You LIVE; You LEARN; You EXPERIENCE; You BECOME;

And what you live is the path that you chose
And what you learn is what you choose to believe
And what you experience is what you choose to see
And what you become is who you choose to be…

And thus, heed my words of simple advice
That life is not bound by rope, or a vice
You are free to choose – so choose at will!
And become your dreams, your wishes, and thrills;

Simply believe; - Richard Mawby

Professional Virtual Reality Esport Gamer

ESL VR Challenger League: https://vr.eslgaming.com/echo-arena/

Third place EU Regionals Hamburg October 2017.

This was quite the experience for Richard and he will not forget the journey that led him to this finale. Virtual reality is an extreme on the other side of the spectrum on which Richard lives and one winter he found himself in a team competing in the very first virtual reality tournament. Since then a few more seasons have passed but he had not found a team to compete with, or life had led him down other paths. He is not sure whether he will continue to pursue this hobby on a professional level as his life is taking him elsewhere in 2019 and beyond but it just goes to show what can be achieved if you take the opportunities presented to you in any given moment.

His view on virtual reality is that it can be a great tool and through games like echo arena and beat saber it can also be a tool for growth and exercise both physically and mentally. It will be interesting to see how this technology develops in the years to follow.
